Sustaining the Lo-Fi Digital Surge

The Lo-Fi aesthetic relies heavily on muted color palettes, loops of mundane imagery, and nostalgic tones to create a calm, relaxing space for viewers. As the demand for slowed-and-reverb "flips" grew, our video monetization team at Saregama needed to rapidly build out visual content for over a hundred catalog tracks.

The goal of this ongoing project was twofold: create a scalable, fast-moving production framework that could pump out multiple high-quality videos a day, while occasionally deep-diving into fully custom, artistic animations for priority releases.

This curated project case study highlights a few favorite visual edits from the hundreds of tracks produced, demonstrating both high-speed automated pipelines and handcrafted animation techniques.

Sustaining the Lo-Fi Digital Surge

Handcrafted Art vs. Smart Templates

Managing an archive of over 100 Lo-Fi tracks meant building a strict separation between high-volume template production and custom, handcrafted projects. The Automated Pipeline (3 Videos Per Day) To meet the target of delivering 15 polished videos a week without burning out, I built a production workflow in After Effects:

  • Isolated Audio-Lyric Syncs: I generated clean, transparent text overlays with pre-synced lyrics as a separate production step.

  • Asset Layering: I sourced vector backdrops from stock archives, broke them into independent layers, and applied automated looping expressions (such as parallax drift and slow camera wiggles) to make them look like continuous living environments.

  • The Master Merge: By simply dropping the pre-synced text layers onto the freshly animated looping environments, I was able to scale output to three completed video packages a day with zero bottlenecking.

The Prioritized Custom Features

For flagship tracks, I bypassed the stock template system completely to build unique, hand-drawn vector art and frame-by-frame sequences based on the original music videos:

This track called for an intricate, artistic approach. I used Adobe Animate to hand-draw the characters and environment from scratch. To add movement to the scene, I used traditional frame-by-frame animation principles to sketch clothes blowing in the wind using organic wave behaviors, filled the line-art frames with color, and composited the final export inside After Effects.

I used Photoshop to trace and illustrate custom vector-style portraits of the lead actors (Akshay Kumar and Vaani Kapoor) using a keyframe from the official music video. I then mapped these 2D character assets across a 3D After Effects workspace, creating physical depth around them with a rolling train animation.

Following a similar approach, I converted promotional frames of Ammy Virk and Nikki Galrani into vector art. I then built out a 3D tracking environment where the scenery and road recede into the horizon to give the impression of a slow, continuous drive.

Created custom vector artwork of Paras Lamba and Mahira Sharma from the ground up, composing a warm, ambient, and peaceful lifestyle scene to anchor the track's cozy, chilled-out vibe.

The combined approach balancing high-speed template deployment with meticulous, hand-drawn art pieces allowed Saregama to build a massive, visually consistent Lo-Fi sub-brand on YouTube with low overhead.

Featured Asset Performance

While the template system successfully populated the wider catalog, these four custom-designed visual pieces drove over 1.9 Million cumulative views on YouTube.
