Navigating Two Sides of Post-Production

This case study brings together my professional editing portfolio across two completely different formats: high-velocity commercial campaign curation for a major record label (Saregama) and deliberate, story-driven independent music video editing for a collaborative album project.

The collection demonstrates my ability to handle different pacing styles—ranging from fast-paced, beat-matched cuts designed to drive YouTube monetization, to nuanced, narrative pacing focused on character arcs and subtle color grading.

Navigating Two Sides of Post-Production

Saregama Influencer Dance Mashups

The Monetization Strategy During promotional campaigns for new music releases, Saregama would contract multiple social media influencers to choreograph short dance covers. These creators published 9:16 vertical clips on their personal social channels to generate viral reach. To maximize the value of these assets, my task on the YouTube team was to repurpose this collection of short vertical videos into long-form horizontal content for the main channel, allowing the company to monetize a secondary piece of media with minimal production overhead.

Post-Production Pipeline & Technical Sync

  • Multilayer Timeline Architecture: For every song campaign, I started by manually lining up all vertical creator submissions on top of each other over a single master audio track in Premiere Pro.

  • The Cut Assessment: I carefully reviewed the synchronized stack, taking notes on where individual dancers executed specific routines with the highest energy or best precision. I then sliced down through the video tracks, cutting to the strongest performance for each beat block.

  • Frame Structuring: While we experimented with multi-screen grid splits and blurred background fills, they proved to be too distracting for long-form viewing. I opted to lock the high-quality vertical clips directly into a clean, centered 16:9 frame, preserving the sharp focus of the performance.

The 'Ibtida' Album

In contrast to the fast, commercial edits for Saregama, my work on independent artist SHAYAR's music album, Ibtida, required a highly collaborative, story-driven approach. Managing completely raw footage, I stepped in to structure narrative flows, sync complex playback performances, and design unified visual palettes across multiple real-world locations. Here's a look at the process I would follow.

Raw Production Media

Creative Execution & Pacing

  • The Narrative Balancing Act: Each video was built around an underlying story arc mapped out by the director. I managed the editorial pacing by treating performance segments and story elements differently. I cut the musical performance clips tightly on the beat, while letting the dramatic story scenes play out naturally to protect the acting choices and dialogue beats.

  • Multi-Set Visual Continuity: Music videos are inherently chaotic to grade because scenes constantly jump across different sets, lenses, and lighting setups. After taking over the complete editing pipeline following a successful test grade on the first track, I built tailored color-correction nodes in Premiere Pro to balance raw exposures and give the multi-location footage a cinematic look.

  • Motion Enhancements: I utilized After Effects to introduce clean, subtle transition pieces that moved the story between distinct timelines, alongside designing custom titles and end-credit sequences.

I worked as an editor and colorist on this video. I edited and blended the performance shots with an underlying story narrative.

I worked as a colorist for this video. I focused on unifying varying outdoor light profiles into a rich, cohesive grade.

I worked as an editor and colorist on this video. I patterned a slow motion memories montage against a normal, reflective lip sync.

I worked as a Director, editor and colorist for this video. I handled the complete pipeline, integrating typographic lyric structures directly into the environment.

Core Takeaways

This mixed-format portfolio highlights my flexibility across different video editing pipelines. The Saregama campaigns refined my ability to look at a high volume of random video files, quickly pull out the best shots, and build a cohesive edit on a tight timeline. On the other hand, the Ibtida project proved I could work closely with indie filmmakers to interpret a director's vision, handle raw log files, and pace a narrative video that protects the emotional weight of the story.
